Common Dental Implant Questions

Why choose dental implants to replace missing teeth?
There are a number of options for replacing missing teeth permanently, and dental implants , in many cases offer the best solution. Dental implants are integrated into your jawbone, making them a permanent replacement for your tooth root. In this way, dental implants offer the strongest, most secure and reliable method of tooth replacement.

What are some of the benefits of dental implants?
As mentioned above, dental implants offer a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. In addition, dental implants:
·         Do not impact adjacent teeth
·         Prevent bone loss and jaw shrinkage
·         Will not slip or fall out of place
·         Can hold a dental crown matched precisely to adjacent teeth to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance

How long do dental implants take?
Dental implants are placed over three office visits. During your first visit, a small site will be prepared in your jaw and the implant will be placed. This procedure is followed by a recovery period of several months while your jawbone accepts the implant as a natural tooth root.

Once your implant has been accepted you will return to our office to have the connection to the new crown placed. Recovery from this procedure takes just a few short weeks, after which you will return to our office to have your permanent crown placed.

The process for dental implants does take some time, but this is necessary to ensure the strongest and most secure results possible.

Who is the best candidate for dental implants?

Root form implants require sufficient jawbone to support the implant. If you do not have sufficient jawbone, additional bone can be placed to accept an implant. Your candidacy for this procedure will need to be determined in a one-on-one consultation with our experienced implant dentist.

Benefits of Porcelain Fillings

There are many reasons our Antioch, California patients look to white fillings made of porcelain or composit materials instead of traditional metal amalgam. One of the most obvious benefits is that porcelain fillings look and feel more natural than metal alternatives. This allows cosmetic dentist Dr. Charlie Palano to provide you with a seamlessly beautiful smile while still addressing the concern of tooth decay.

In addition to being a more aesthetically pleasing option, porcelain fillings offer a number of benefits including:
·         Porcelain and composite fillings do not expand and contract with heat fluctuations in the mouth. Metal filling will expand and contract with heat and cold, which could eventually lead to damage to your tooth structure

·         Porcelain and composite fillings are bonded to your tooth. Metal fillings are not bonded to your tooth, which can lead to more rapid decay

·         Porcelain and composite fillings do not contain mercury. While the science is still inconclusive, there is evidence to suggest that the mercury in metal fillings may be toxic and a health concern

·         Porcelain and composite fillings require very little natural tooth structure be removed than when placing metal fillings.

Diablo Hills Dental Solutions

Due to the many benefits of porcelain fillings, Dr. Palano does not offer metal alternatives to our patients. Combining the mounting evidence about the dangers of metal fillings with his years of experience, Dr. Palano strongly believes that porcelain fillings are more in line with our dedication to your comfort, safety, and satisfaction.

If you live in or around Antioch, California and would like to learn more about the benefits of porcelain filings, please contact Diablo Hills Dental Excellence to schedule an initial consultation today.
